Western Sweeper Sales HistoryBob Benge and Charlie Max Robberson began Western Sweeper Sales, Supply & Service, Inc. in 1988. Their first shop was located in Santa Ana, California. They sold sweepers, parts and supplies and did many repairs on various makes of parking lot sweepers. Late in 1988 Bob and Charlie asked Russell Brown to join them. Within a few months they relocated to Ontario, California where they remained until 1991.
All three men had been sweeping contractors since the 1960’s in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, so their experience greatly helped make Western Sweeper Sales a success. They built a reputation for fast service at reasonable rates. They understood that if a contractor needs to sweep every night he couldn’t wait two days for a repair.
In 1990 Western Sweeper moved to Anaheim, California and became a dealer for Skavin’jer Parking Lot Sweepers. These sweepers were simple to work on, well designed and affordable. They sold over 60 by 1993. To date they have sold over 600 Skavin’jers. In 1990 Bob Benge retired. He passed away of cancer a few years later. Charlie Robberson retired in 2002. Russ Brown has since hired a manager, Martin Zarco to run the day-to-day operations. Russ Brown is still active in the business although he now lives in Paris, Arkansas.
Western Sweeper Sales specializes in new and used parking lot sweeper sales, engine changeovers, complete engine/brake system maintenance and welding repairs. Parts and supplies are available at the Anaheim shop and also are sent out daily by UPS.
As a sister company to Western Sweeper Sales, Russell and his wife Sandy have started Southern Sweeper Sales in Paris, Arkansas.
